Relatively unknown British songwriter Mr Hudson has been tipped for international stardom – by none other than Kanye West.
The public is used to Kanye West talking large. The star is one of the biggest artists on the planet, and recently boasted that no rapper could take him in a beef as he is the most intelligent man in the hip hop community.
Kanye West is a noted fan of indie music. The rap guru included ‘Young Folks’ by Peter, Bjorn And John in a download only mixtape, and recently leaked new material by the Swedish group on his blog.
Last year’s album ‘808s And Heartbreak’ showed no signs of this influence however, with Kanye West eschewing his usual rapping style for autotune enhanced singing. However the rap star’s latest project is perhaps his most unusual to date.
West appears on the forthcoming single by Mr Hudson. Formerly backed by ‘The Library’ the now solo Hudson was contacted by the rap guru in order to work on new material. The first new release from this relationship is forthcoming single ‘Supernova’.
In an interview with NME Kanye West praises his new musical partner. “Mr Hudson has the potential to annihilate me, and I will do everything to help him do that,” West said about his new friend.
“He’s not going to make some of the mistakes that I’ve made, spazzing out and pissing people off. I think he’s going to end up being a really cool Sinatra-type character.”
Kanye West produced Mr Hudson’s second album ‘Straight No Chaser’ which is due for release over the summer. With the added media attention West brings, Mr Hudson is under no small amount of pressure.
However the singer appears to have ignored any critical attention, claiming that he is up for the challenge of living up to Kanye West’s hype.
“My first reaction was just to smile and say ‘Yeah that’s typical Kanye, exaggerating’. But maybe I’ll prove him to be right.”
Mr Hudson releases his new single ‘Supernova’ on June 13th.
