Morrissey has declared himself to be "humasexual" in a new note to fans.
Morrissey's sexuality has always been a subject of great speculation. A notoriously private individual, the indie legend has always shunned any attempts to probe his love life.
The release of his 'Autobiography' though, has changed all this. In the book, the singer discusses a relationship with Jake Walters, stating that "the first time in my life the eternal 'I' becomes 'we', as, finally, I can get on with someone".
Sparking a flurry of reports, Morrissey has now moved to clarify his position. Writing on True To You, the singer said: "Unfortunately, I am not homosexual. In technical fact, I am humasexual. I am attracted to humans. But, of course … not many".
Meanwhile, the book itself is enjoying strong sales. Jon Howells, spokesman for the Waterstones book store chain, spoke to Associated Press recently (via NME) and revealed that he believes 'Autobiography' will remain a strong seller in the run up to Christmas.
"In Britain, he is one of our icons," Howells said. "His is the great untold story from the '80s generation of music heroes."
