Moreish Idols have shared new single ‘Pale Blue Dot’.
The band caught attention with a pair of pivotal EPs, finding critical acclaim with the individualistic shapes of ‘Float’ and follow-up release ‘Lock Eyes And Collide’.
Closely aligned to pivotal London-based imprint Speedy Wunderground, the band have taken up the tasks of recording the imprint’s 50th single.
The now-legendary Speedy Wunderground singles series has evolved into an incredible platform for left-field music, and it’s 50th instalment is a feat in itself.
Out physically on October 1st, ‘Pale Blue Dot’ comes with a Dan Carey dub on the flip, and it follows the label’s rules – in and out of the studio in one day, working with alacrity.
Moreish Idols aim for directness on the track, with ‘Pale Blue Dot’ being overhauled in the studio – and in the process, unlocking the song underneath.
The band comment…
‘Pale Blue Dot’ has been through many iterations, from simple drum machine / guitar demo, to evil krautrock demon hellscape. A spontaneous decision led by Dan Carey brought us to his studio at 8 in the morning to quickly run the song in a new, shortened arrangement, played on acoustic guitars and simplified down to its bare bones. It was a beautiful morning, and we all felt we were hearing the song the way it was meant to be heard: just straight to the point.
The track encourages you to kill your darlings, soak in the vastness of everything, and commit to your own obliterating but necessary ego death. ‘Pale Blue Dot’ has been through this same journey and for that it’s a very special one for us.
Tune in now.
Speedy Wunderground will be hosting a special release party show at London’s Shacklewell Arms on September 30th. The show will feature sets from special guests Disgusting Sisters and Speedy Wunderground alumni, and tickets are available now.
