Momma’s ‘Bottle Blonde’ Is A Reflection On The Past

"A letter to our past selves..."

American group Momma have shared new song ‘Bottle Blonde’.

The band are working with an overhauled line-up, albeit one that still focusses on the central creative partnership of Etta Friedman and Allegra Weingarten.

New album ‘Welcome To My Blue Sky’ is out on April 4th, a record that stretches Momma, allowing them to embrace the future, while also shaking off the past.

New single ‘Bottle Blonde’ utilises electronic breakbeats underneath their scuzzy pop-edged indie rock, the brisk pace disrupting a classic guitar-focussed sound. Breaking apart old tropes, Momma aim to pick through nostalgia and find their foundation once more.

“We wrote this song as a letter to our past selves, when we were 23 and 24, stumbling through an extremely grueling tour that ended up taking a huge toll on our hearts and minds,” explain Friedman and Weingarten. “We both had bleached hair and were in the midst of making huge decisions that would change our lives and also our perceptions of ourselves. The song started out as kind of an affirmation to our younger selves that everything would be ok if you just follow your heart, but now looking back on it the lyrics could also be read as us talking to each other.”

Tune in now.
