Scottish post-rock legends Mogwai are to host a special screening of their live film ‘Burning’ later this year.
Mogwai have always lent themselves naturally to film. Vast, emotive soundscapes their music is almost tailor made for the silver screen with numerous directors including slices of the Glasgow band’s material in their work.
However the group themselves like to maintain control of this. Mogwai soundtracked the acclaimed documentary ‘Zidane’ and have recently completed work on a film showcasing their blistering live show.
Possibly the most thunderous noise in British music, Mogwai’s live show mixes extreme volume with breath-taking control. Filmed in action at Brooklyn last year, the Scottish group are now set to premiere the results in London.
Directed by Vincent Moon, Mogwai were shot in action over three nights at Brooklyn’s Music Hall Of Williamsburg. Produced with assistance from Nataniel La Souanec the film is titled ‘Burning’ and is set to premiere soon.
Taking place at London’s Scala venue on June 3rd, the special screening will be called the ‘Burning Party’. The night will also include a live performance from Remember Remember, an electronic collection who are signed to the band’s own Rock Action label.
Furthermore, the night will boast DJ sets from members of Fuck Buttons, Errors and Mogwai themselves. Speaking the NME, Stuart Braithwaite praised director Vincent Moon.
“He’s a really good guy and I think he really gets what we’re all about,” he explained. “He’s an eccentric guy, but he’s really hard working and he’s got an amazing outlook.”
“It’s not a traditional music film…there’s a few abstract things of us walking around New York and a few little montages. There’s no speaking in it at all, either.”
