New compilation confirmed

Members of Modeselektor and Jahcoozi have contributed to a new African music project.

African music has now reached a greater level of visibility in the mainstream than ever before. Electronic sounds from South Africa have made an impact on the European scene, while High Life and Kwaito fuel groups such as Vampire Weekend and the Fair Ohs.

Now a group of German producers have completed an unusual new project. Members of Modeselektor and more have travelled to Nairobi to record with local musicians, resulting in an unusual fusion of styles (via FACT).

The project stems from a trip in 2009, when Berlin based outfit Modeselektor were joined by fellow producers Gebrüder Teichmann and Jahcoozi travelled to Nairobi.

A statement explains that the loose knit collective wanted to “meet, mix and mingle with artists from the local music scene”. Introduced to local producers and rappers, the German electronic artists also worked with pop act Just a Band and blind singer Michel Ongaro.

A Nairobi townhouse was turned into an impromptu studio, and when word spread local musicians flooded into the building. Quickly re-branded as 'the Madhouse' the project has resulted in a new compilation album.

Recorded during their time in Nairobi, 'BLNRB – Welcome to the Madhouse' is an 18 track compilation due for release on Out Here. Set to drop on July 8th, you can watch a short preview film below...
