German duo Modeselektor have confirmed details of a new compilation and a series of parties.
The Germans love to see you dance. Over the course of the past decade the nation has turned itself into a centre of dance, with Cologne and Berlin acting as conduits for the country’s techno scene.
Yet Modeselektor are still a class apart. Fusing techno with plenty of shuddering bass, the duo sit alongside Britain’s dubstep explorations. Deeply individual, the band’s have spent the summer touring with side project Moderat.
Now the duo are set to roar again. With their label BPitch still doing the business, Modeselektor are set to launch a new series of compilations.
Set to be curated by the band themselves, the forthcoming ‘Modeselektion Vol.01’ is a good indication of where the German producers are heading. The new CD features some exclusive cuts from big name bass and techno producers.
Amongst the artists featured are Dutch dubstep wizard 2562 who shares Modeselektor’s love of slick techno and throbbing bass. Elsewhere, SBTRKT appear while seminal dubstep duo Digital Mystikz are represented by ‘Explorer’.
Mixing new artists with some big hitters, ‘Modeselection Vol. 1’ is a stunning introduction to the band’s singular universe. “The main concern in all of this was the idea of defying genres and the usual beef between different camps, i.e. to create without borders and be completely freestyle,” say the German duo.
“When we now look at the line-up on this CD, it pretty much goes down like oil.”
The new compilation will be released on CD, with a luxurious vinyl version. Each of the tracks will be released as a 12 inch, culminating in an an eight-track LP on transparent vinyl that’s limited to 666 copies.
