Military Genius Announces New Album ‘Scarred For Life’

New track 'Darkest Hour' is out now...

Military Genius will release new album ‘Scarred For Life’ on November 1st.

The project is the solo work of songwriter/producer Bryce Cloghesy, who is also a member of CLASH favourites Crack Cloud. In contrast to his group work, Military Genius is a space for abstraction, soulful songwriting that splits the atoms of R&B, cavernous dub, and jazz-like dexterity.

2020 album ‘Deep Web’ was an imposing, sometimes playful solo debut, and a follow-up is now due.

Out on November 1st via left-field redoubt Unheard Of Hope, new album ‘Scarred For Life’ eschews genre classification, finding Military Genius grappling with personal endeavours.

It’s all led by new song ‘Darkest Hour’ – vaporised musicality, it allows those elements to swirl round in an idiosyncratic cosmos before coalescing on a therapeutic message of catharsis.

Backed by some self-directed visuals – shot close to his new desert home in Joshua Tree, California – Military Genius comments…

Darkest Hour’ encapsulates the feeling of being swept away by time, into an endless night. There is a certain melancholy in leaving the past behind, dwelling on simpler, antiquated ways of life as we are pushed forward. This message is poignant on a personal level–becoming a father has led me to contemplate my own childhood, witnessing a purity of emotion prior to self-awareness.

This applies to a broader collective consciousness too, as the march of progress fundamentally alters our shared experience. It’s all about embracing the journey, stepping beyond the point of no return, and facing the future.

Tune in now.
