Tweets, twits, whatever – it seems social networking site Twitter is here to say.
With its more addictive than crack cocaine format causing more damage to British industry than Scottish bankers (admit it – you’re online right now!) Twitter has become one of the talking points of the year thus far.
However, beware fakes – a recent posting by David Bowie announcing he was off to Berlin to record a new album turned out to be fake, as did a ‘row’ between Brian Eno and Alan McGee. What appears to be genuine, though, is Streets mainman Mike Skinner’s love affair with the networking site.
Posting another message on the site yesterday (April 13th) Mike Skinner promised to write and record one song per day, and then share them across the internet for free. The Streets released their so so fourth album ‘Everything Is Borrowed’ last year, bringing them one closer to their fabled fifth album.
Throughout the band’s career Mike Skinner has insisted that the group would only record five albums and then split up. It seems that the album may come quicker than fans had anticipated, with Skinner posting a new message reading:
“I am going to Tweet three new songs this week. I can’t be bothered with all this trying to sell you music. It wastes valuable time.”
“Day 1 will be easy. I’ve got one nearly done,” he explained. “Day 2 easy. Day 3 is looking tricky. Might have to post a totally rubbish one.”
However writing songs plays second fiddle to his social life, as the musician revealed what films he was planning on watching. Where does he get the time?
“Right. ‘Handel’. Then ‘Usual Suspects’. Kevin Spacey inspiration. You won’t hear from me till tomorrow eve and a song I will have,” he wrote.
If Mike Skinner stays true to his word, a new song should appear sometime today (April 14th). Stay posted!
