Mika Miko Split

Art punks call it a day

Frenetic noise punks Mika Miko have shocked fans by deciding to call it day after just one album.

Despite the advantages offered by the internet, it is still as hard as ever to launch an indie group. Touring, recording and very often releasing your own records all takes its toll, especially when combined with a day job.

Hailing from Los Angeles Mika Miko emerged via a series of jaw dropping live performances. A flailing mesh of hair, sweat and riffs the band soon became hot property.

In the close knit Californian music scene Mika Miko soon made friends releasing a host of split seven inches, CD-Rs and other paraphernalia.

Keeping track of their discography is no easy feat, however in an interview with ClashMusic earlier this year the group admitted that they are best appreciated in the live setting.

“I think we come off better live than we do recorded” Jessie Clavin revealed. “It’s better to have that impact as a live band, isn’t it? If we had to choose to be better live or recorded, we’d go with live.”

Now fans will have to rush in order to catch their infamous live show after Mika Miko revealed they were set to split. “There’s no bad blood at all, we’re all still really good friends” said guitarist Michelle Suarez to The L.A Times.

“We’ve just been a band since high school and all of us are ready to move onto different things. We started the band for fun and wanted to end on a positive note.”

Mika Miko are set to “return to school, new projects, jobs and relationships”. The band are currently planning a farewell show with The Smell in Los Angeles before they split up.
