Michael Kiwanuka Returns With ‘Floating Parade’

A soulful taste of heaven...

There’s no one quite like Michael Kiwanuka. Matching vintage tropes to fresh perspectives, the English artist’s take on the soul lineage has resulted in some incredibly personal music. 2019’s revelatory ‘KIWANUKA’ was a breakthrough of sorts – scooping the Mercury, it arguably represented the apex of his work to date.

But then came the pandemic, and our world slowed down.

New music from Michael Kiwanuka has been thin on the ground, with a stand alone track – ‘Beautiful Life’ – released in 2021 for the Netflix documentary Convergence: Courage in a Crisis.

Hitting the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury earlier this month, Michael Kiwanuka was a graceful force of nature onstage – even taking time to introduce a new song.

Out now in full, ‘Floating Parade’ is a gorgeous listen, a fully three-dimensional piece of sculptured soul. Built alongside Danger Mouse and frequent collaborator Inflo, it’s a track defined both by broad brushstrokes and finer details.

A sumptuous piece of music, ‘Floating Parade’ seems to look to the heavens, the gorgeous sonic painting acting as a wonderful backdrop for Michael Kiwanuka’s voice, so pure and so calming.

No word yet on a further album – although Michael Kiwanuka is hitting the road in North American for a co-headline tour with Brittany Howard.

Tune in now.
