Michael Kiwanuka has broken his silence with new cut 'Black Man In A White World'.
The Mercury nominated songwriter will release new album 'Love & Hate' on May 27th, and it was produced by British artist Inflo and Danger Mouse.
Michael Kiwanuka comments: “I've always wanted to make an album that felt and sounded like this one. Working with guys as good as Danger Mouse and Inflo really helped me find what I was looking for. I hope this is just the start of more music to come.”
Danger Mouse is a hugely experienced voice, and it's clear that the producer took the material in fresh directions. Danger Mouse adds: “I’d been wanting to work with Michael for a while and once we did a song, we just felt like we should keep going. I knew he had a great voice, but his guitar playing on this album was very important. Inflo was the very important last piece that really kept it all going. We really did feel like we were making an important album.”
New cut 'Black Man In A White World' is online now - musically, it recalls gospel, while nodding towards the soul influences that dominated Michael Kiwanuka's debut album. Lyrically, it's a statement of identity, at times angry, at others joyful.
The accompanying visuals were directed by Hiro Murai - tune in now.
