Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' has now sold more than 30 million copies in the United States.

The album reached the incredible feat earlier this month, becoming the first album in history to break the 30 times platinum barrier.

Cary Sherman, chairman and CEO of the Recording Industry Association of America, said in a statement: "RIAA has awarded gold and platinum records on behalf of the music business for nearly 60 years, but this is the first time an artist has crossed the 30 times multi-platinum plateau. What an exceptional achievement and testament to 'Thriller's enduring spot in our hearts and musical history."

'Thriller' was released in 1982 and by the end of 1984 it went 20 times platinum. Michael Jackson's death in 2009 caused an enormous outpouring of grief, and a re-appraisal of his work, causing another huge sales spike within the singer's catalogue.

Above all else, though, it remains a classic album.
