The King Of Pop himself, Michael Jackson, is set for a massive sales boost this week after talent show The X Factor devoted an entire program to his songs.
The sales of Jackson’s ‘King of Pop’ retrospective has soared after the television program extensively featured his songs. The album was released earlier this year to celebrate Jackson’s 50th birthday, and featured a tracklist chosen by the fans.
The new sales boost is yet another reminder of how potent a force the show can be. HMV spokesman Genaro Castaldo told BBC6 Music that “The X Factor shows have become the biggest way of promoting music in the UK ever since we lost Top Of The Pops. Everyone queues up to get on there”.
Last weekend Michael Jackson languished in the lower regions of the chart, not even registering a Top 40 entry. “It just shows you the enduring appeal of Michael Jackson, reminding you of how brilliant his songs are, but also it tells us all how incredibly powerful the X Factor has become at promoting music in the UK,” the spokesman continued.
Sales figures indicate that Jackson will be beaten to the top spot by returning Aussie hard rock delinquents AC/DC with their new album ‘Black Ice’.
