Late pop icon Michael Jackson has been nominated in a total of five categories for the upcoming American Music Awards.
Michael Jackson dominated the pop landscape in life, with his death creating a surge towards his music. The singer’s classic tracks became an almost constant soundtrack to daily life, shattering airplay records in the process.
Sending his back catalogue flooding into the charts, Michael Jackson’s music finally overtook his private life as the source of the singer’s fame.
With his ‘new’ single ‘This Is It’ being released this week, Michael Jackson can still produce the goods, it seems. Now the late singer has been nominated for a total of five American Music Awards.
The deceased icon is up for: Artist Of The Year, Favourite Pop/Rock Male Artist, Favourite Pop/Rock Album, Favourite Soul/R&B Album (for ‘Number Ones’) and Favourite Soul/R&B Artist.
For more details please visit the American Music Awards website.
Jackson is up against Kings Of Leon, Taylor Swift, Lady GaGa and Eminem in the artist of the year category. The winners will be decided by fan votes – with voting open on the site now.
Michael Jackson has also been making news recently thanks to an intriguing auction. Fans will be able to buy a lock of the singer’s hair later this year, with the only catch being a slight bit of fire damage.
The hair was cut from Michael Jackson following an accident at a Pepsi commercial in the early 80s. Receiving plastic surgery to repair burns, it is thought that this incident marked a change in the singer’s life.
The 12 strands of hair are valued collectively at £1,000 ($1,600) and will be auctioned at the Radisson Edwardian Hotel at Heathrow, London on October 17th.
