Dr Conrad Murray has pleaded not guilty to charges relating from the death of pop icon Michael Jackson.
The late Michael Jackson’s problems have, by now, been well documented. Possibly the most recognisable man on the planet, the singer’s descent into public seclusion, plastic surgery and prescription drugs ultimately took his life.
Dying of a heart attack at home in Los Angeles last year, Michael Jackson’s family immediately began demanding answers over the late star’s death.
The singer’s personal physician was arrested, on charges of involuntary manslaughter having knowingly prescribed Jackson with un-prescribed drugs.
In a court hearing yesterday (April 5th) Dr Conrad Murray pleaded not guilty to to giving the late King of Pop a lethal dose of an anaesthetic. BBC News reports that the preliminary hearing took place at Los Angeles Superior Court.
Despite the area outside the court becoming a media frenzy, few journalists were allowed inside the court. Over a dozen of Michael Jackson’s relations appeared at the ceremony, with many of his fans finding their way inside.
Dr Conrad Murray has revealed that he intends to pay for his legal defence by continuing to practice as a physician. However court documents reveal that the doctor faces having his license suspended during legal proceedings.
Reports in the US have suggested Dr Murray’s legal team will argue that Jackson’s death was caused when the singer injected himself with Propofol.
