Rising songwriter Michael Blackwell has shared his new EP ‘A Trip Around The Sun’.
Melding grunge and alt aspects with an astute pop vision, Michael Blackwell has a unique sound. You can hear aspects of Kurt Cobain’s songwriting in his music, alongside more modern groups such as Mercury winners Wolf Alice.
Spending time this year focussing on his music, Michael Blackwell is finally ready to release his debut EP. Out now, ‘A Trip Around The Sun’ finds a talent blossoming, a voice coming into maturity; a brisk, succinct song cycle that dares to be personal.
Take focus single ‘Cold Water’. Constructed alongside Adam Forster, Ben Allen and Alex Lanyon, as well as being mixed by John Catlin (Inhaler, The Killers, Crows, Foals), it finds Michael Blackwell learning to face down negativity, and embrace the light.
He says…
“‘Cold Water’ was written about learning how to deal with trauma. Washing away the pain and negative feelings and moving on with the next phase of your life.”
Tune in now.
