Grammy nominated star M.I.A. has revealed the release date of her new album – on a blimp flown above Coachella.
With her single ‘Paper Planes’ racing high up the Billboard charts, M.I.A. seemed to have conquered the world in the summer of 2008. Soundtracking the feelgood film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ the Sri Lankan born singer’s music could be heard across the globe.
Taking time off to raise her child, the outspoken singer spent the bulk of last year in the studio. Working with some familiar faces, M.I.A. has kept her new material firmly under wraps.
Due to be released this summer, M.I.A. decided to confirm the release date of her new album in spectacular fashion. With thousands of fans descending on Coachella, the singer floated a balloon over the crowd containing a mysterious message.
Written on ticker tape attached to the balloon were the words: “New Album 6.29.10”. Remember that American types format their dates different, meaning that a new album should materialise in the United States on June 29th.
British albums come out one day before out American cousins, meaning that M.I.A. should release her third long player on June 28th.
The blimp initially advertised M.I.A.’s appearance at the dual site Hard Fest. Set to take place in Los Angeles on July 17th and New York on July 24th, the singer is expected to perform alongside acts from her N.E.E.T. label.
The imprint’s roster includes the likes of Sleigh Bells and Rye Rye.
M.I.A. has not officially confirmed the release date of her third album.
