Sri Lankan born singer M.I.A. is planning to perform at the Oscar ceremony, despite recently giving birth to a baby boy.
Since its release last year, M.I.A.’s ‘Paper Planes’ has taken on a life of its own. The song’s appearance in the surprise hit film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ sent the single racing up the charts, eventually breaching the Billboard top ten.
The song was recently nominated for a Grammy as ‘Record Of The Year’. M.I.A. gave a stunning performance, then went into labour only hours later.
AR Rahman composed the score for ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and claims that M.I.A. is planning to perform at the Oscars, where the score is also up for an award.
“That’s the million dollar question,” Rahman told the BBC. “She wants to. In fact, she said she’ll do it with a hologram. She has all these ideas. “I don’t know how it’s going to be possible, though. Having a baby is such an important thing in your life – more important than winning an Oscar.”
The composer added he is now working with Kylie Minogue. “We’re doing a song together which she’ll perform in the movie,” he said. “The film is called ‘Blue’ and is being shot in Hawaii and a lot of other places.”
