With nominations at the Grammys and Oscars, media attention on Sri Lankan born singer M.I.A. has never been higher.
However, few expected the level of interest in her newly born baby. Media speculation has been rife over what the singer will name the child, with many reports indicating she has chosen an unusual ‘celebrity style’ name.
M.I.A. performed at the Grammys while heavily pregnant, and had to miss the Oscar ceremony due to giving birth shortly before. Despite this, the singer was apparently still keen to get there and sing – what a trooper!
Media speculation has forced M.I.A. to post a blog on her Myspace quashing the rumours. She writes:
“MY BABY IS NOT CALLED ICKITT, PICKIT OR LICKIT THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO ALL THE HOLLYWOOD PRESS. HES A BABY , HE DONT NEED PRESS!”
“I DIDNT RELEASE THE BABY NAME BECAUSE I DIDNT THINK IT WAS NEWS!!!!”
“BUT I WILL BE BACK WITH SOMETHING NEWS WORTHY SOON , TILL THEN GO PICK ON APPLE (daughter of Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow), SATCHEL (daughter of Tonya Linette Lewis and Spike Lee) AND MOON UNIT (daughter of Frank Zappa and Adelaide Gail Sloatman).”
She signed off by writing: “LOTS OF LOVE STICKIT!!”
