MGMT Stream ‘Congratulations’

After new album leaks online

Brooklyn space cadets MGMT have begun streaming their new album ‘Congratulations’ for free online.

MGMT’s return has become a major talking point. Following on from the synth pop nirvana that was debut album ‘Oracular Spectacular’ forthcoming release ‘Congratulations’ threatens to be a completely different beast.

Containing just nine tracks, ‘Congratulations’ was recorded with help from space rock pioneer Sonic Boom. Featuring a tribute to Television Personalities singer Dan Treacy, the album has sparked furious debate.

A recent free download did nothing to dispel fan fears over a stinker. Later giving an interview to American magazine Spin, MGMT appeared to apologise for the song claiming it was a joke which had gone too far.

Due for release on April 12th, ‘Congratulations’ has now leaked onto the internet. As a result, MGMT have begun to stream their new album online.

“Hey everybody, the album leaked, and we wanted you to be able to hear it from us,” they wrote on their official website. “We wanted to offer it as a free download but that didn’t make sense to anyone but us.”

MGMT played their London comeback show on Thursday (March 18th). Dedicating the set to Big Star singer Alex Chilton, the band rushed through a mixture of new material and those classic singles from their debut.

MGMT are to release ‘Congratulations’ on April 12th.
