MGMT On Obama Win – Exclusive

Brooklyn Group "Ecstatic" At Win

Brooklyn electro dreamers MGMT have celebrated Barack Obama’s recent US presidential victory, telling Clashmusic.com that they are “ecastatic” at the news.

The band have had a hugely successful year, turning industry hype into packed venues and an album that shops could barely keep on the shelves. Debut record ‘Oracular Spectacular’ was a stunning mix of other worldly rock and electro pop, two parts Donovan and one part Yazoo. Gathering across the board plaudits, it may well figure highly in those difficult to avoid end of year polls.

The band have found it difficult not to be overwhelmed by their success. “It’s been a kinda crazy year – we’ve had lots to figure out, and lots of growing to do. We’ve had to make the band ‘a band’… because we only put our live show together at the start of the year, and ten started touring, so we were a little inexperienced in that field. But a few months later we were playing David Letterman, and these huge festivals. It all happened so fast that we had to respond, and adapt really quickly,” said Andrew VanWyngarden.

With the pressure on, the band are already looking to write their second album. Van Wyngarden told us that “I think it’s unavoidable that we’ll change – we don’t pay any attention to any press, so we’ve been quite oblivious to what’s been going on.”
