Brooklyn space cadets MGMT have apologised for their bizarre new download single ‘Flash Delirium’.
MGMT were always going to have their work cut out surpassing ‘Oracular Spectacular’. The album spawned ‘Kids’ which went on to become one of the defining indie-dance tracks of the past decade.
Retreating to the studio, the band began focussing on some unlikely heroes. Forthcoming album ‘Congratulations’ contains tributes to Brian Eno and Television Personalities songwriter Dan Treacy.
Kept under close guard by the band, MGMT recently released album track ‘Congratulations’ as a free download. Bewildering fans, the track is a bizarre psych rock onslaught with some screaming synths.
Come to think of it, Brian Eno would be proud!
However MGMT recently back tracked and actually apologised to fans for releasing the single. Speaking to Spinner the band’s Ben Goldwasser revealed that “when we first wrote that song, we were laughing so hard”.
“Andrew (VanWyngarden) just reminded me of that – that we thought it was the funniest thing we’d ever heard. And then we got used to it, it started to sound more normal” he explained.
“It’s not a single, but we thought it was a good way to entice people to listen to the whole record. I’m sure there are plenty of people who think it’s completely weird and not what they were expecting. I’m sorry.”
MGMT are set to release ‘Congratulations’ this summer.
