MF Doom Changes Name

New album in the works

Cult hip hop producer MF Doom has changed his name, and will now be referred simply as DOOM.

As name changes go, it’s hardly up there with Prince deciding to be called a fancy squiggle. But when it concerns the long awaited album by hip hop don MF Doom, this is valuable news indeed.

The intimidatingly titled DOOM is due to release a new album, which will be also be written with the caps lock on. ‘BORN LIKE THIS’ is due to drop in March, and contains some stunning guest collaborations.

Ghostface Killah joins the producer under the name Tony Starks, while fellow Wu Tang alumni Raekwon also appears. Jake One produces comeback single ‘Ballskin’ while the album also uses a track by late hip hop producer J Dilla.

‘BORN LIKE THIS’ takes its title from a poem by Charles Bukowski, which the rapper has cut up and re-worked as the track ‘CELLZ’.

DOOM is the latest incarnation of a rapper who has also recorded under the names Viktor Vaughan and King Geedorah. Hugely imaginative, the rapper is ferociously individual amidst an increasingly moribund hip hop scene.

DOOM is set to release new album ‘BORN LIKE THIS’ on March 23rd. Tracklisting is as follows:
