Metallica Play O2 Arena

Metal Giants Rock London

Thrash metal’s finest Metallica played a raucous ‘fans only’ set at the O2 Arena last night (September 15th), just a day after the band were confirmed at the top of the UK album charts.

The band released new album “Death Magnetic” last week and were involved in a closely fought chart battle with Scottish group Glasvega. The American metal legends won the day though, and celebrated by playing a small, fans only gig to around 20,000 – well that’s intimate for a band of this size!

The band took to the stage all dressed in black apart from bassist Robert Trujillo who wore his now trademark combat shorts. Metallica played a number of old classics alongside the new material, putting their all into legendary songs such as “Master Of Puppets”.

At one point singer James Hetfield warned fans present to put away their camera phones, demanding that they refrain from uploading “some shitty Metallica video on YouTube.”

The band showed no signs of rust, with drummer Lars Ulrich perched on a high riser frequently jumpong to his feet and exhorting the crowd.

Ticket sales from the gig went to the Youth Music Charity.
