Lou Reed and Metallica will release their as yet un-titled collaborative album on October 31st.
Lou Reed is many things: dilettante, poet, icon, renaissance man. Now it seems that we will have to add ‘metalhead’ to that list after the singer confirmed an album length collaboration with Metallica.
The thrash icons have been working with the seminal songwriter on a series of tracks. Details remain sketchy, although Lou Reed has confirmed that he intends to re-work material he contributed to the score for a musical version of German playwright Frank Wedekind’s Lulu.
The title of the project has yet to be revealed, although a release date has been confirmed. The album will be released (rather appropriately) in the UK on October 31st before the Stateside launch takes place on November 1st.
The project has taken a step further towards reality with the launch of a new website. Lou Reed and Metallica has set the new page live, with the site currently containing little besides a new photograph.

Lou Reed has enjoyed a busy summer, playing several British shows. Making an appearance at Hop Farm, the singer completed two headline dates but sadly did not preview anything from the new collaboration.
Earlier this year, Lou Reed gave a grandiose interview to the New York Magazine in which he talked about the new material in glowing terms – at one point labelling it “the best thing done by anyone, ever”.
“The version of the Lulu music I did with Metallica is awe inspiring” he insisted. “It’s maybe the best thing done by anyone, ever. It could create another planetary system. I’m not joking, and I’m not being egotistical.”
Lou Reed / Metallica are set to release their collaborative album on October 31st.
