Thrash heroes Metallica are preparing to release a DVD recording of a recent show in France.
Metallica are one of the most successful and longest standing rock groups of all time. Growing up in California the band thrived on primal metal sounds produce by bands such as Black Sabbath and Motorhead.
However they were disgusted by what they saw as the fashion-led hair metal scene. The group set about blending the energy of nascent hardcore with musicality of metal to produce something that was to conquer the world.
Labelled ‘thrash’ the new sound was honest yet uncompromising. Becoming hot property in the metal world the band’s ‘Black Album’ sent them into the stratosphere, transforming Metallica into stadium filling monsters.
The band diverted away from their thrash roots in the mid 90s, however, in a move they later came to regret. Last year’s album ‘Death Magnetic’ saw them come full circle, and was hailed as a return to form by fans.
After the release of the album Metallica announced an enormous world tour. Taking in some huge venues the band have already played to countless thousands of fans with the end not even in sight.
The group set the audience record for London’s O2 Arena, before returning some months later to smash the record again. Metallica recently played a show in France at Arenes de Nimes, which is set to be released as a concert film.
Reports on Rock Radio confirm that the band are due to release the DVD, the first of two that Metallica have in the pipeline. The group are said to be preparing another release which will feature three shows from Mexico City.
