Mercury Rev Announce New Album ‘Born Horses’

It's out on September 6th...

American legends Mercury Rev will release new album ‘Born Horses’ on September 6th through Bella Union.

The much-loved group have weathered time and tide, remaining a truly transcendental live experience while also seeking out new challenges. 2015’s ‘The Light In You’ was extraordinary, and – barring an admittedly delightful Bobbie Gentry covers project in 2019 – it’s been a while since we heard from them.

Mercury Rev sweep back into view with new album ‘Born Horses’, which will hit home on September 6th. Set to be accompanied by a full UK tour, the record finds Jonathan Donahue exploring new aspects of tone and tenor with his voice. He says…

“When I opened my voice to sing on this record, this was the bird that sang: a lower, whiskery voice, which surprised me as much as it may others. I don’t know where the bird came from, but it’s there now, and I don’t question it. It’s just the bird that wants to sing.”

New single ‘Patterns’ is out now, a divine piece of songwriting that display Mercury Rev at their most inspired. Soaked in lysergic effects, there’s a twinkling beauty to the band’s work, coupled to a broader sense of maturation.

Mercury Rev comment…

When we gaze up at the stars in the sky at night, the flickering lights seem random. If we could zoom out and see all of the galaxies revolving around each other, we would see the order in it. There are only Patterns on top of Patterns…”

Tune in now.
