This year’s Mercury nominees have enjoyed a massive increase in sales with Elbow’s winning album “The Seldom Seen Kid” enjoying a massive 260 percent overnight boost.
The Mercury award acts as an influential showcase for British music, with each nominee enjoying a massive sales boost regardless of their success in the competition. Elbow won the prestigious award and saw their album “The Seldom Seen Kid” fly off the shelves, but for those further down the list the effect was just as fruitful.
Dubstep recluse Burial saw his album “Untrue” rise 880 percent overnight, as the bookies favourite made up for his disappointment with a massive sales increase. Token jazz entry the Portico Quartet had a 690 percent increase, with their album “Knee Deep In The North Sea” becoming an overnight success due to its nomination.
Elbow’s “The Seldom Seen Kid” won the Mercury Music Prize last night (September 9th).
