Meg White Gets Married

White Stripes star in double ceremony

The White Stripes drummer Meg White has married her partner Jackson Smith in band member Jack White’s back garden.

While Jack White just can’t stop working, little has been heard of Meg White since the release of ‘Icky Thump’ in 2007. Loved by fans for her simple style and laid back manner, Meg White has always sought to stay away from the limelight.

The White Stripes were forced to cancel an American tour in 2008 as Meg was suffering from nervous exhaustion. Since then, Jack White has joined up with The Raconteurs, and more recently The Dead Weather, leaving Meg White to recover.

The pair are exceptionally close. Of course, back in the band’s early days press and fans were told the two were brother and sister. Same clothes, dark hair – it all seemed so obvious!

However the news eventually broke that Jack and Meg White were once married, with Jack Gillis actually breaking with convention to take his wife’s name. Musicians in Detroit were apparently tickled pink by the ruse, with the pair having long since divorced.

Since then, Jack White has found love with the guitarist famously marrying British model Karen Elson after meeting her on the set for The White Stripes’ ‘Blue Orchid’ video. Meg White, however, has remained single but recently got engaged to Jackson Smith.

Jackson Smith has no small degree of rock heritage in his veins. His father was legendary Detroit guitarist Fred ‘Sonic’ Smith, who added some jet engine riffs to The MC5. It doesn’t stop there, however, as Jackson Smith’s mother is Patti Smith – the punk poet who inspired the likes of Morrissey to take a more individual slant with their lyrics.

Meg White and Jackson Smith were married in a double ceremony in Jack White’s back garden on Friday (May 22nd), reported Associated Press.

Also married in the ceremony were The Raconteurs’ and The Dead Weather’s bassist Jack Lawrence and his fiancé Jo McCaughey. The wedding was attended by a small group of relatives and close friends.

The White Stripes reformed earlier this year to perform on the last ever edition of ‘Late Night With Conan O’Brien’. The group were long time friends of the host, and had once performed on the show each night for a week.

As if that wasn’t enough, Jack White also revealed that he plans to re-enter the studio with group later this year.
