Irish singer-songwriter Maverick Sabre has shared his first solo single of the year, ‘Roses Ether’, out via FAMM.
In Maverick’s own words “‘Roses Ether’ is a simple spark under my own feet to ask myself am I ready for change and how urgently am I ready to act.” Co-produced with longtime collaborator Zach Nahome, Maverick ventures into searingly confessional territory, with a rootsy, riotous soundtrack. An unadorned aide-mémoire, Maverick confronts his destiny, reeling off burning existential questions with soulfulness and gusto.
‘Roses Ether’ is Maverick’s first solo release since 2022’s ‘Don’t Forget To Look Up‘. In the same year he commemorated the 10th anniversary of his debut album, ‘Lonely Are The Brave‘, re-recording it to regain ownership of the masters.
Across a decade-long career, the Hackney-born artist has released four albums and collaborated with the likes of George The Poet, Ghetts, Nia Archives, Joey Bada$$, Chronixx, Jorja Smith, Nile Rogers, Vintage Culture and Chase & Status. When he’s not creating his solo works, Maverick’s writing songs with others or releasing tracks with YOURS, a dynamic four-piece House music collective.
His new release comes with a striking video directed by Ivor Adamah-Lawson which Maverick calls a “chaotic representation of [the single]. But it’s all made to be open to interpretation. What do you take from it?”
Adamah-Lawson further elaborates on the visual’s themes, teasing a gripping new chapter for Maverick Sabre: “We’re in this space now. The visuals are following the sonics into this mad world, and having the grace to grapple with the bigger questions of self, higher powers, God, our own agency, the current milieu, and everything else is undeniably an exciting place to be. To anyone here for the Maverick Sabre journey, new and old, I don’t know if you’re prepared for this next chapter. This is your first call to ready yourselves; more to come.”
