The 1975 frontman Matty Healy has told Liam and Noel Gallagher to grow up and reform Oasis.
The Manchester icons parted backstage at Rock en Seine in Paris, an ignoble end soundtracked by sibling rivalry and the sound of splintering guitars.
Since then, the Gallagher brothers’ fortunes have risen and fallen. From the ashes of Beady Eye Liam Gallagher has become a vastly successful solo star, while Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds have scored international success and widespread acclaim.
Sitting down for an interview on Q with Tom Power, The 1975’s Matty Healy stepped into the breach – and demanded Oasis reform.
His logic is simple: imagine you could be a member of “the coolest band in the world” he pointed out, “and not doing it cos you’re in a mard with your brother…”
Shrugging to the camera and sounding audibly annoyed, the singer adds: “I can deal with them dressing like they’re in their 20s and being in their 50s… but acting like they’re in their 20s? They need to grow up.”
Pointing to their numerous spats online and in the press, he described two men-of-the-people “sat around in Little Venice and Highgate crying over an argument with their brother…”
He added: “Grow up. Headline Glastonbury.”
Getting into his stride, Matty Healy then added: “There is not one person going to a High Flying Birds gig or a Liam Gallagher gig who would not rather be at an Oasis gig.”
“Do me a favour. Get back together. Stop messing around.”
