Matthew Thomas’ ‘The Waiting Room’ Is A Moment of Introspection

A spotlight moment taken off of the Americana singer-songwriter's latest EP 'Mustangs & Thoroughbreds, Vol.2'...

Matthew Thomas has released his brand new single ‘The Waiting Room’.

A moving piece of songwriting from the Americana riser, the track offers solace through moments of struggle. Layering hazy acoustics under Thomas’ warm tones, there’s a balance between stillness and momentum, taking the listener on an emotional journey that takes place in rural America.

The track is a spotlight moment across latest EP, ‘Mustangs & Thoroughbreds, Vol. 2’ which sees Thomas explore pop-rock further, hinting towards the influence of folk and country music. The project forms part of a broader artistic venture, unpacking ideas around existence and aspirations through thought-provoking verses. Now firmly stepping into his solo music career, it’s tracks like ‘The Waiting Room’ that demonstrate the artist’s evolution, a moment of vulnerability and introspection.

Speaking on the track, Matthew Thomas expands: “The Waiting Room was intended to be a hopeful song of mourning I wrote for my wife last year in the wake of our first miscarriage. Fast forward to this past July and we went through another miscarriage. It was heartbreaking. I’m a sucker for the silver linings but this song is a reminder to me that sometimes the best thing we can do is embrace the struggle and just love crap out of each other. I don’t think I’ve believed in the message of a song I’ve written more than this one.”
