Matthew Herbert is one of electronic music's true auteurs, an artist who continually challenges himself.
Fresh from a trio of conceptual albums – 'One One', 'One Pig' and 'One Club' – the producer is now working on a new book which will follow the aesthetics of an album that will never be made.
The release will be crowd-funded via Unbound, with fans who support the publication of THE MUSIC set to gain a number of up-front rewards.
Mathew Herbert:
"Making music is often a glorious compromise. The journey a piece of music goes on – from starting inside your head to later reappearing in your ears – is full of twists, horrors, revelations and, if done properly, joy. However, unless you are able to take responsibility for every stage in the process, which electronic music has allowed us to get close to, the end result is invariably as much a surprise to the composer as it is to the listener. What was so attractive to me about this project is that the music can just travel from head to head. Any joy in this case will be in the fact that everyone's imagination will render an entirely unique version of THE MUSIC and thus make each one of those iterations the definitive version."
The producer added that: "Unbound are the perfect home for this project as they already implicate the audience in the process of creating the book itself. Their model means they are able to create beautifully realised physical books and that sense of pride and craft is increasingly important to me in today's disposable culture."
