Out there British producer Matthew Herbert has spoken about a number of new projects, including one which uses pigs as instruments.
Think you know electronic music? Think again. In a fifteen year career Matthew Herbert has expanded the notion of what is acceptable as ‘music’ via a huge variety of mind-bending projects.
For his first ever show Herbert used a packet of crisps as an instrument, with the producer moving on to form a vast variety of groups and pseudonyms. A new blog features Matthew Herbert talking about his new projects, including one based around his pigs.
The producer is working on a concept album called ‘One Pig’. Apparently “made up entirely of sounds made during the life cycle of a pig” the project will apparently come to fruition after the death of Herbert’s pig.
The blog states: “I will be there at its birth. during its life. present at its death. and during the butchery process.”
“Its body will then be given to chefs new and old. there will be a feast. and maybe a pair of shoes and a drum from the skin. and a toothbrush from its bristles. and ink from its blood. it will all be recorded. and then turned in to music.”
‘One Pig’ is apparently due next year. Also out next year is ‘One Club’ a record which is set to be recorded at a club in Germany.
“From 8-10 p.m. every single person there will be invited to make noises. There will be various microphones placed both outside and inside the club (including the toilets) to capture everything. Everyone is welcome to come along.”
There is also an album in the works named ‘One One’ which is due to feature Herbert singing and playing all instruments. Not as intriguing to write about, but ClashMusic feels that it may be slightly more friendly on the ears.
