London musician Matthew Gordon has died.
News was confirmed by his label Albert’s Favourite’s, who released two startling, innovative albums by the London creator under his Pie Eye Collective moniker. Fragmented electronica with aspects of London nightlife, his curatorial ear and penchant for world-building brought huge acclaim to ‘Tangental City’ and 2021’s ‘Salvation’.
In a note, the team at Albert’s Favourite’s described themselves as “heartbroken” by the news. The statement reads:
We are beyond heartbroken that our friend, artist and collaborator Matthew Gordon aka Pie Eye Collective, passed away at home in South London. His partner, Emma-Jean Thackray, has written these words which we can only echo.
“Matthew was an unparalleled human with a gentle and generous soul. He lived for music, for knowledge, and to make a difference in the world.
His music is trance-inducing, complex yet delicate, and eternal. Matthew will continue to bring joy and inspire others through his work, always. He lives on in family, friends, and all who listen to his music.”
His two albums, ‘Salvation’ and ‘Tangential City’, on Albert’s Favourites are among the most forward thinking, creative and inspirational we have ever worked on, and his brilliance will long remain an influence on us. He is deeply missed.
