Matt Champion’s Debut Album ‘Mike’s Laundry’ Thrives On Complexity

Matt Champion has shared his debut album ‘Mike’s Laundry’ in full.

The multi-hyphenate helped power BROCKHAMPTON’s astonishing rise, before taking time out following the group’s shuttering. Making his solo debut, Matt Champion has shared a string of riveting solo singles, with ‘Slug’ and Dijon-featuring ‘Aphid’ becoming instant fan anthems.

His connection with JENNIE – ‘Slow Motion’ – was stunning, with full length album ‘Mike’s Laundry’ out on streaming now.

Framed by vivid colour, it’s a work of real complexity, dominated by shifts in mood and tone. The fractured production of ‘Gbiv’ evolves into a trap-adjacent roller, while ‘Dogfish’ is austere bedroom pop worthy of Alex G.

‘Aren’t You Excited’ spins the creative dials once more, while closer ‘Meetin’ You’ – with its disjointed sonics and soulful vocal – comes close to pin-pointing Matt Champion’s truest intentions.

He comments: “The whole process of this album was trying to find something without looking for it…”

Tune in now.
