Matt Berninger will release new solo album ‘Get Sunk’ later this year.
The National frontman is a lauded songwriter, lyricist and performer, making his solo bow in 2020 with the Booker T Jones produced ‘Serpentine Prison’.
It seems the American artist is ready to scratch that solo itch once more, preparing a new album under his own name.
Out on May 30th, ‘Get Sunk’ has its rooted in a period of pandemic-induced writer’s block. n 2020, he went through “a long period of writer’s block and self-disgust. I just got sick of asking myself ‘Why am I like this?’”
Moving beyond this, the songs on his new album emerged from an enduring fascination with the human condition. “Our hearts are like old wells filled with pennies and worms,” he explains. “I can’t resist going down to the bottom of mine to see what else is there. But sometimes you can get yourself stuck.”I
Out this Spring, the new album features two prominent guests: ‘Breaking Into Acting’ (feat. Hand Habits) and ‘Silver Jeep’ (feat. Ronboy).
Available to pre-order now via Book/Concord Records, the album was crafted alongside Grammy Award-winning producer and engineer Sean O’Brien who also co-wrote many of the songs.
New song ‘Bonnet Of Pins’ is out now, with the blacker-than-black gallows humour lit up by Matt Berninger’s pen – “Nabokov cocktails,” anyone? – and his brooding deliver.
