London riser Mathilda Homer has shared her poised new single 'Too Much'.
The track revels in restraint, with the jazz-leaning arrangement unfurling at a beautifully glacial pace.
Relishing every single word, Mathilda's soulful vocal cracks at the edges, the raw emotion seeping out of her performance.
"How much pain can you feel, until it gets too much…" she asks in the opening line, a paean to resistance and everyday perseverance.
"Yes I understand you can't be happy everyday," finding a sort of uneasy acquiescence with the travails of the modern world.
“I’ve never had a song come more naturally to me,” she explains. “It’s my stream of consciousness after reading the news. Still today when I sing it, it puts me in this contemplative space.”
Tune in now.
Mathilda Homer has also confirmed plans for an ultra-intimate residency at London's Laylow – it kicks off on February 27th.
