mary in the junkyard have shared their new song ‘this is my california’.
The band have enjoyed a stellar year, signing to AMF Records and shared an ace introductory EP. Live, the trio like to tease out each idea to its fullest extent, meaning that every performance is singular and distinct.
Set to support indie types Sports Team on their latest UK jaunt, mary in the junkyard finish the year with a dose of new material.
Out now, ‘this is my california’ moves beyond the breakneck twists ‘n’ turns of their debut EP, soaking itself in rarified beauty.
Produced by Craig Silvey (Sam Fender, Wunderhorse) it’s a soothing listen, held together by a dulcet performance from lead vocalist Clari-Freeman Taylor.
The band comment…
‘this is my california’ is a nostalgic song about finding my own dreams. Seeing ‘California’ through films and tv always felt like a paradise or idea of success that didn’t really resonate with me.
Also in the song there’s a lot of lyrics about “something lifting you out” – growing up me and my friends would climb everything, roofs and trees, maybe to feel like we were escaping the place we were in or feel a kind of wonder of how small it was from high up.
Tune in now.
