Iconic guitarists Omar Rodriguez Lopez and John Frusciante have teamed up for a new download album.
In the post-punk age, musical virtuosos are still viewed with suspicion. The ghost of prog haunts anyone who knows more than a few licks, with thrashed out bar chords still the order of the day in guitar music.
Working with The Mars Volta and Red Hot Chili Peppers respectively, Omar Rodriguez Lopez and John Frusciante have done a lot to push aside this notion.
The pair are both hugely respected guitar players, whose work has pushed their respective bands onto vast commercial and critical plains. Recently leaving behind Red Hot Chili Peppers, John Frusciante is set to team up with another guitar icon from a download album.
Working with Omar Rodriguez Lopez, the new material unites two of the most acclaimed guitarists of their generation. The first time they have collaborated, the new material is available as a download album.
Apparently “recorded many years ago” the album is being released now, with most of the material being entirely unreleased. Instrumental, the material is appropriately tagged as ‘progressive rock’.
Available as a download, fans can name their price with all proceeds being donated to ‘Keep Music In Schools’. However there is no bottom donation, so the material can be claimed as a free download.
Of course, you’re stopping children getting an education so perhaps there is a moral imperative to dig deep.
