Mark Ronson has apparently recorded a new Christmas song with The View and some bagpipes.
Blame Paul McCartney. Ever since the soaring success of his single ‘Mull of Kintyre’ bagpipes have been shunned by the world of pop, associated with one of the best selling – if annoying – singles of all time.
Now Mark Ronson has decided to resurrect Scotland’s national instrument. The producer has been recorded new material with The Business Intl, and has attempted to recruit a full pipe band.
Working with The View’s Kyle Falconer the pair have completed a new track which the producer feels could make a Christmas hit. A potential follow up to the recent single ‘The Bike Song’ the track was apparently recorded during recent studio sessions.
“We recorded a couple of tracks,” he confirmed to the NME. “There is one with bagpipes on it. He phoned me and was like, ‘I don’t want to sound racist but I have this song with bagpipes, do you want to write some lyrics and a melody around it?’.”
Racist? Not at all. Scotland is closely linked with the bagpipes, in fact rarely a day goes by in Clash Dundee when we don’t break out the chanter for a quick rendition of the Dashing White Sergeant.
Potentially released later this year, Mark Ronson currently is not sure what to do with the track. “Maybe it will be a one-off Christmas song” he confirmed.
Meanwhile, Kyle Falconer has re-joined The View to complete work on their third album. Currently un-titled, the album is due to be released early in 2011 after the band complete a lengthy UK tour.
Currently playing shows across the UK, The View previewed their new album with the free download track ‘Sunday’.
The View are due to release their new album in early 2011.
