Mark Ronson has spoken to ClashMusic about his decision to form The Business Intl.
A highly regarded producer, Mark Ronson stepped out into the limelight with his album ‘Version’. Re-casting some well known tracks as slices of vintage soul, the record became an overwhelming success.
However the attention given to Mark Ronson left the producer feeling overwhelmed. Working on a follow up, a new group named The Business Intl were formed to emphasis the collaborative nature of the project.
Speaking to ClashMusic, the producer insisted that it was a simply decision to take. “Well, it became evident to me as the record was getting on that to call my record “Mark Ronson” would be full of shit because ‘Version’ was essentially a bedroom record, but what brought this record to life was the musicianship and different people collaborating. To just call it ‘Mark Ronson’ is misleading” he said.
The Business Intl utilises close friends, guest musicians and more. Amongst the more familiar names are The Zutons singer Dave McCabe and The View’s frontman Kyle Falconer.
The unusual name was apparently decided upon after a lengthy decision process. “I wanted something that wasn’t just a pluralised word like “Mark Ronson And The Tank Tops” – The Business was kinda cool because it’s quite strong but I don’t want anyone to get it wrong and think that we’re trying to be like Reservoir Dogs in our suits.”
“I think people can have any impression they want but at the end of the day you go into the studio fourteen-hours-a-day and you roll up your sleeves and it is work.”
