Marina And The Diamonds On Debut Album

Exclusive: Newcomers speak to ClashMusic

Quirky new piano pop newcomers Marina & The Diamonds have spoken to ClashMusic about their forthcoming debut album.

Marina And The Diamonds emerged this year with a quirky blend of piano led pop, pitched somewhere between Bat For Lashes and Regina Spektor.

With a truly outlandish singer, the group quickly became the talk of the London music scene. Gaining rave reviews, Marina And The Diamonds were snapped up by a record company with their debut single dropping this year.

Tracks such as ‘I Am Not A Robot’ earned a cult following, with Marina And The Diamonds adding a pop sheen to Kate Bush style songwriting.

Now working on their debut album, singer Marina Diamandis admitted that she is already missing the thrill of performing live.

“There was a point where I was hating being in the studio not focusing at all,” she admitted. “I was all over the place, being a total prat. I’m surprised my producer didn’t hit me!”

Titled ‘The Family Jewels’ the album is due out later this year. ClashMusic recently caught up with the singer in the studio, with the Welsh born singer admitting that she is a perfectionist.

“I’m a perfectionist and super-anal,” explains the vocalist. “I need everything exactly how I want it, which drives me crazy but hopefully it’ll be worth it in the end.”

Admitting similarities to Kate Bush and Bat For Lashes, the singer argues that she has her own distinct voice. “I’m sure my fans will let me know how I differentiate from those people and how they differentiate from me, so I’m just staying out of that whole thing cos I think it’s really pointless.”
