Marika Hackman will release new album ‘Big Sigh’ on January 12th.
The songwriter recently signalled her return, sharing potent new song ‘No Caffeine’. Now she’s gone one further – Marika is ready to embrace the next chapter in her life.
Out on January 12th, ‘Big Sigh’ is – its maker reveals – the hardest album she’s ever had to write, containing songs about love and loss, mental health, and attempting to find balance.
Recently announcing a show at London’s ICA, she sold it out within minutes. A full UK tour follows in March, with Marika Hackman now sharing an additional preview from her upcoming album.
Out now, ‘Hanging’ is constructed with Marika’s trademark care and attention, a song about looking back on a painful relationship. Unpicking tangled notions of the past, she muses on departures from her life, and how – even when it’s the right decision – it can hurt.
She comments…
“’Hanging’ is reflecting on a difficult past relationship and how you can trap yourself in a situation where you’re unable to grow into the next stage of your life. The line ‘yeah you were a part of me, i’m so relieved it hurts’ is describing how painful it still is to break up even if it’s not right.”
Tune in now.
