Maple Glider’s Evocative New Release Hinges On Family

Two absorbing new songs...

Maple Glider has shared two new songs – ‘You At The Top Of The Driveway’ and ‘You’re Gonna Be A Daddy’.

The Melbourne artist’s music infuses spectral folk-pop aspects with a dose of Americana, resulting in something atmospheric, and revealing. New album ‘I Get Into Trouble’ lands on October 13th, with Maple Glider confirming shows at Servants Jazz Quarters in London on September 13th and 14th.

She’s just shared two new songs, and in terms of the tracklisting ‘You At The Top Of The Driveway’ and ‘You’re Gonna Be A Daddy’ bridge Side A and Side B of the record. An astute pairing that both reflect and contrast one another, the lyrics draw on a key event in the songwriter’s life – becoming an auntie for the first time.

She says…

I wrote these songs together as part one and two when I found out I was going to be an aunty for the first time. I experienced an urgent feeling of wanting to be near her, and I imagined all the things we’d be able to do together, in the same places where my brother and I grew up. I was having all sorts of considerations about my place in the world and what I am doing here, and I was searching for the things / people that hold importance to me.

Both songs have a wonderful sense of humanity to them – ‘You At The Top Of The Driveway’ has a wistful atmospheric, while the subtle celebration of ‘You’re Gonna Be A Daddy’ is quietly overwhelming.

Tune in now.
