Musicians have swarmed online to discuss Manchester City’s incredible title win yesterday.
Perennial under-achievers, Manchester City have matched their spell in the shadows with a reputation for being a team followed by musicians, by creatives.
So when the club finally snatched success in the most dramatic of fashion yesterday (May 14th) it was cause for some famous faces to celebrate. Currently in South America, Noel Gallagher watched his beloved Manchester City win their first top flight title in 44 years at a bar in Santiago.
Speaking to the BBC, he revealed some of the emotions he was feeling during that unbelievable match. “We arrived in Santiago and a friend of ours opened his bar early so we could watch it” he explained. “It started off tense, then it went from tense into elation and then back to tension. It seemed like QPR were in the lead for a lifetime and it was very dark.”
Eventually, though, Manchester City broke down QPR’s brave rearguard action. “Right before we scored, I thought ‘We need it now, if we’re going to do it, we need to do it now’. And then when Dzeko scored, I don’t know what happened after that, there was a lot of swearing.”
When the winning goal went in, it seems that Noel Gallagher was lost in ecstasy. “My mate tried to pull the TV off the wall. I swore a lot and then I cried like a baby because I’ve never seen anything like that before. It was mindblowing.”
Using his Twitter feed, Liam Gallagher kept in touch with fans. “Blue moon rising…LG” he wrote confidently before the game had even kicked off.
Swearing to return to Manchester if City won the title, the frontman then wrote after the final whistle: “Anybody know of any castles for sale in the MCR area…LG”.
The celebrations continue today in Manchester with the team set to parade the trophy. Music will come from Doves while Smiths drummer Mike Joyce is also set to be on hand.
Billy Bragg congratulated Johnny Marr on Twitter, before the Bard of Barking put pen to paper to sum up the feelings of most fans. “Refusing to allow Sky TV into the house, I’m pretty old school when it comes to watching footie. I try not to see the scores so I can enjoy the drama of the games as they unfold on MotD. Watch Manchester City trying to wrest the title of off Manchester United last night was as exciting as anything I’ve seen on tv for years”.
“For the Premiership title to go down to the last day of the season, to be between the Great Achievers of Utd and the Great Underachievers of City, to be decided with the last kick of the season – who writes this stuff?”
