Scottish singer Malcolm Middleton has spoken about an upcoming live collaboration, in which he will cover Madonna.
Famed for being a miserable Scotsman, Malcolm Middleton is really a pop kid at heart. A recent download only EP saw the singer take on hits by Girls Aloud and more, re-crafting them in his own inimitable style.
Set to perform at The JD Set in Glasgow on June 17th, Malcolm Middleton will join a makeshift Scottish supergroup for a trawl through Madonna’s back catalogue.
The singer will join forces with Silver Columns, with surprises treats in store. Speaking about the performance Malcolm Middleton said: “It’s still a bit up in the air, but I think I’m going to collaborate with Silver Columns on ‘Into The Groove’ and I’m probably going to do the song ‘Stay’ as well, which I’ve done live and on my album before.”
Silver Columns’ Johnny Lynch has asked Malcolm Middleton to perform the rap in ‘Vogue’ – an idea which Malcolm Middleton is not keen on.
“I don’t know why he keeps asking that! No! I’m not convinced” he claimed. “That song when you try the rap in the middle, it just sounds awful.”
“Johnny used to live do the rap from Fresh Prince of Bell Air, which went on for about seven minutes or something. I thought that’s seven minutes I’m never getting back. I think he’s quite intrigued by the whole Scottish white boy rap thing. But I’m not.”
Former Arab Strap cohort Aidan Moffat is also in the frame to perform the rap. “Let’s see if I can arrange that. That would be MUCH better. If we do it together, we’d be like the Scottish D12.”
