Malcolm Middleton has introduced new project Lichen Slow.
The Scottish songwriter has been busy with Arab Strap these past few years, but dives into something new during the opening weeks of 2023. Together with Joel Harries, the pair have formed new group Lichen Slow, blending folk-hewn songwriting with electronic aspects.
The duo met by chance, and quickly found they had a lot in common. “We just clicked and had a good chat about Bolt Thrower,” Middleton says. “I sent Joel an acoustic guitar bit and he immediately came back with a complete song. That’s when we thought we might be onto something. We just started writing songs and couldn’t stop.”
A full album follows on March 10th via Rock Action, with new single ‘Pick Over The Bones’ online now. A punchy, direct offering, it seems to neatly merge the backgrounds of both artists, while also introducing a new voice for the partnership.
