Major Lazer and La Roux have teamed up to produce a forthcoming free download mixtape.
The humble mixtape is a quick and easy way of transmitting ideas, of turning musical tastes into an important document. In a new partnership British synth pop duo La Roux are set to get the mixtape treatment, courtesy of Major Lazer.
The Florida bass duo comprise of Diplo and Switch, possibly two of the most influential producers around right now. Taking apart the duo’s material, La Roux have contributed extra parts to the new selection.
Diplo of course is no stranger to this game. Working with M.I.A. he produced 2004’s now-classic ‘Piracy Funds Terrorism, Vol. 1’ before hooking up with Brooklyn singer Santigold for 2008’s celebrated ‘Top Ranking’ mixtape.
Hooking up with Switch, the pair have got to grips with La Roux. The synth pop duo were flung into the charts on the back of a Skream remix, with Major Lazer now adding a little Dancehall to the proceedings.
The fourteen track mixtape opened with a re-working of ‘Bulletproof’ and contains numerous slices of new material. The famed ‘Lets Get Ravey’ remix is given an overhaul, before the mix finishes with a ‘Double Dubplate’ remix of ‘Hold Yuh’.
Due for release on May 26th via the Mad Decent website, the free download mixtape was apparently put together during Major Lazer’s recent trip to Jamaica and features appearances from Gucci Mane, Drake, Rusko and plenty more.
